The Ascott Limited (Ascott) has officially opened lyf Chinatown Singapore, its fifth lyf-branded property in the country. Bridging old and new, the 90-key property spans a row of conserved shophouses and a new build, honouring the area’s heritage and its long-standing ties to the Chulia community while delivering lyf’s signature experience-led social living. Through curated local collaborations, community-led recommendations and cultural touchpoints spanning all five senses, lyf Chinatown Singapore serves as a placemaker that connects guests with the district’s living culture.
Designed around the belief that the most memorable stays are shaped by genuine local connections, the property, which welcomed its first guests on 3 July 2026, encourages guests to experience Chinatown not as visitors passing through, but as locals discovering the district’s evolving culture and creative energy.
Ms Genevieve Khua, Country Director, Revenue Management & Area Manager, lyf and The Unlimited Collection, Ascott, Singapore said: “Every lyf property is shaped by its neighbourhood, and lyf Chinatown Singapore is no exception. Located in the heart of one of Singapore’s most storied and dynamic districts, the property offers guests an authentic gateway to local culture, heritage and community. Housed within conserved shophouses, lyf Chinatown Singapore blends modern social living within the area’s rich history, reflected through commissioned artworks inspired by the journeys of early Chulia traders and collaborations with surrounding businesses. As a brand that champions “live your freedom”, we invite guests to experience the freedom of living like a local, connecting with the community and exploring a neighbourhood that has welcomed people from around the world for generations.”
Where the community comes to lyf Chinatown

Inspired by the people, cultures and traditions that have shaped Chinatown over generations, lyf Chinatown Singapore brings the neighbourhood’s character into the property through thoughtfully curated artworks and bespoke design motifs. Beyond celebrating the precinct’s heritage, these creative expressions reflect its vibrant community, stories, craftsmanship and multicultural spirit.
Spanning the arrival experience, six social spaces and all nine room categories, each commissioned artwork offers its own take on the neighbourhood. Familiar icons appear throughout: historic shophouses, lanterns, the koi fish as a symbol of prosperity. The recurring motif, however, is the Queen’s Crepe Myrtle. Native to South India’s Coromandel Coast, where the Chulia traders began their voyages to Singapore, the flower appears carried by whimsical traveller figures, a nod to the merchants who crossed oceans to settle here and to guests arriving in the district today. The result is a visual thread running through the property, tying the precinct’s trading past to the people moving through it now.
Built around community

At lyf Chinatown Singapore, the neighbourhood is an extension of the guest experience. The property takes a community-first approach to hospitality, bringing together guests, local businesses and cultural partners in ways that benefit all three.
This starts with lyf Hacks, an insider guide curated by the lyf crew to help guests experience Chinatown like residents do. From everyday tips to navigating the precinct and finding nearby conveniences, lyf Hacks lets guests explore with confidence and ease.
A rotating line-up of programmes keeps guests connected to the neighbourhood’s culture and character. Exclusive to guests, a 1.5-hour guided Heritage Walk led by the property’s Ambassador of Buzz covers some of the district’s most significant landmarks, uncovering lesser-known stories of its early communities and the murals tucked within its alleys.
Beyond the Heritage Walk, guests can look forward to a series of community experiences developed with local partners, from traditional Chinese calligraphy and henna artistry to Muslim-friendly perfumery workshops and beloved local delicacies. Introduced periodically throughout the year, these collaborations or similar initiatives, reflect the neighbourhood’s diverse cultures, craftsmanship and culinary traditions, and are designed to connect travellers with the local community from the moment they arrive.
